Are we still doing sticky intro posts?

Hello! My name is Blaise, and welcome to my blog where I talk about books, movies, music, tv, as well as life and mental health, and whatever else crosses my mind.

I'm a English asexual spoonie who lives in Lancashire and works as an archivist for my local council.

I love paranormal and supernatural stories, especially, urban fantasy, horror, magical realism, and anything witchy/romantic. I would say my favourite genres are cozy mystery, paranormal mystery and paranormal romance but mostly I love discovering good stories, regardless of genre and medium. I enjoy all things glommy, as well as mythology, folklore, anthropology, nature, religion, and history. When not reading or buying books, I love listening to indie folk music, I'm fascinated by cryptozoology, I also love colouring, sleeping, and falling down true crime or ghost hunting rabbit holes.

I watch various TV shows in the above genres, my current favourites being Good Omens & Supernatural, as well as shows like The Dead Files and various documentaries looking at history, culture, and religion.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Water and looking at my bookshelves, there are the very few books I own that feature water either in the story, the title or on the cover. But there are a lot that feature food & drink, so I'm using those instead (I kept finding water on covers in the form of drinks which is how it inspired me to change it up>

One thing about me is that I always have music playing - pretty much from when I wake up in the morning to when I go to bed, and hell half the time I fall asleep listening to music as well. Even at work, when I'm just working by myself, I'll have one earbud in with some music playing. I think I'd go mad if I wasn't!

I like a lot indie/folk, especially Bon Iver and Hozier which I'm aware make me sound like a total hipster but I love the sounds.

So today I want to share one of my favourite Bon Iver songs which is Holocene.

Holocene was the second single from their second album Bon Iver, Bon Iver. It was nominated for song of the year at the 2011 Grammy's.
Justin Vernon has said that it's partly named after the geological era, but it's also a metaphor for when you're not doing well. It's also a song about redemption and realizing that you're worth something; that
you're special and not special at the same time.

Enjoy!

Where would a fangirl get some Good Omens icons from, please and thank you kindly!?

One of my favourite things about interacting with people online is that everyone just accepts it when you have a non-traditional name. No-one questions it. There's no look of confusion, no repeating myself, no having to spell it out.

I have spent my whole life confirming that yes Blaise is my name, this is how you say it, spell it, and yes I'm sure that's my name. Don't get me wrong, I love having a 'different' name, I loved not being a Jessica, an Ashley, a Louise, a Michael, a David, a James and so on like everyone I went to school with but oh I got tired of confirming my name at times.

But sometimes I enjoy the telling of the story about it - because it has a story.
Blaise.
It is the French form of the Roman name Blasius, which was derived from Latin blaesus meaning "lisping". I do not have a lisp. Or any other kind of speech impediment. No-one in my immediate family, that I'm aware of, has or had a lisp or speech impediment.

There's a Saint Blaise who is the patron saint of, among other things, wool combers (and the wool industry as a whole) and ENT illnesses.

I am named after the French mathematician, physicist, inventor, and philosopher Blaise Pascal who my parents bonded over when they met in university. Mum did something involving statistics & probability (don't ask me what, my brain glazes over at the mention of anything maths-y) and my dad did philosophy & religion.

I low-key think that's a pretty cool origin story for me

The Book Blogger Hop was created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and was moved to Ramblings Of A Coffee Addicted WRiting in February 2013. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

The Question of the week is What fictional character would you like to meet in person?
I am currently reading The Vampire Knitting Club by Nancy Warren which has not only lead to me booking a visit to Oxford later in the year, but it's also making me want to try again to learn to knit - I've bought some wool and some needles, and I've got some Youtube videos open ready to teach me.

But I would low-key love it if while I was there, I could to go the Cardinal Woolsey, where Gran and the other members of the Vampire Knitting Club can take me under their wing/s and teach me to knit. I figure they're undead, they have all the time in the world and will therefore (hopefully) have the patience.

I also think having afternoon tea with Lucy and Rafe at the Elderflower Tea Shop would be delightful - so long as no-one dies in the middle of it!

Today’s topic is: A Job I Wouldn't Be Good At
I suffer from chronic pain and fatigue so anything that involved a lot of physical manual labour would not be a good fit for me. Even the thought of it is exhausting!

As much as I love being outdoor and in nature, it needs to be on my terms due to aforementioned spoonie issues, so anything outside wouldn't work for me.

I couldn't do customer service or retail because I couldn't cope with the people. Although my job does involve some interaction with people, they're mostly volunteers or training providers, or internal stakeholders, certainly not the general public at large - they are just horrible

The last thing that stands out as something I'd be absolutely terrible at is a cleaner. I both hate mess/dirty, AND hate cleaning - I have my own cleaner who comes to my house because of it. She's amazing and I don't know how she does it!
